Building a bar area in your garden

With many of us being confined to our homes are gardens over the past 12 months, it should come as no surprise that outdoor bars and man cave sales have boomed. You can buy a pre-built bar to install in your garden or you can create your own. Some fantastic bars have been built from wooden pallets, and if you have the time, you can save yourself a lot of money doing it this way.

You need to decide if you want your bar to be in door or outdoor and if it is outdoor whether it will have some sort of cover over it. You may decide to build a basic bar area that is not waterproof. This is the simplest form of a garden bar. Or maybe you’re going to go all out and build an indoor bar area in a wooden outbuilding or stand alone with a roof. If you choose to build an outdoor shed with a bar area then you may also want to have a TV in there or a music system. This will require power which means you will need an electrician to install an outdoor socket. They will need to run an armoured cable under the ground up to your shed to install a socket. All of this will add a fair amount on to the cost of installing a bar but once it is done, it should last a long time.

You can buy a simple outdoor bar for around £200-£300 or you can buy a pre built outdoor summer house for around £1500 – £2000.

It is important to think carefully about where you are going to build your bar area. If it is not going to have shelter, then you may decide to build it in a shady area of the garden so that you don’t have to worry about drinks getting hot during the warmer months.

Out houses are not only a good place to build a bar area but also, they are great for converting into a games room, a spare room for guests or as an office in which you can work from home. So many of us have had to work from home over the past year that you may actually have decided to continue to do so for the foreseeable. Having an outdoor office allows you to have somewhere to go to work which is away from your home. This makes it easy to keep your home life and work life separate.
