Many families now have quite a small outdoor space as developers often try to squeeze as many properties into a plot as they can but whatever size your garden is there are ways to make that outdoor area look larger.
The first thing to do is to sketch out to scale the area you have to work with and a rough idea of the elements that you want to include in the garden such as water features, flower beds and seating areas. There are lots of ideas online if you are struggling to know where to start.
When it comes to constructing your garden ideas it is good to incorporate a winding path leading to different areas of the garden as this will create the illusion that the garden is wider than it is or alternatively a short, wide garden can be made to seem longer by the use of straight paving. An unusual idea that some garden designers utilise is to install a mirror somewhere in the garden that is angled to reflect some of the plants. This mirror can also be used to reflect light to more shady areas of the garden which may often be in shadow.
Remember that having a small garden does not mean that you cannot have fun with design ideas, so what are you waiting for?
