For a lot of people they have held a lifelong dream; to be able to be self sufficient for both themselves and their family. There are a lot of ways to achieve that, obviously, like through hard work, earning money and investing wisely. But for many people becoming self sufficient means something a little bit different. We all buy food; that’s simply a fact of life. But there are many, many foods that we buy that we can grow ourselves instead, teaching us valuable skills and, perhaps most importantly, saving us money.
Some people do, space allowing, grow vegetables in their gardens, but for the vast majority of people this is not an option. However in many communities there are plots of land available for long term rent with the specific aim of growing fruit and vegetables in mind; there are called allotments. All you need to do is a quick internet search or contact your local council to enquire about where the land is available and how much it costs; then you need to start learning about planting and rearing edible things!
